Thank y'all for your responses.

The first thing I did was to contact my attorney, to give him this new information, and to verify that the release that I'd given earlier was still viable for Voc Rehab. I had received assistance through that agency @ 20 years ago [it doesn't seem that long ago!]

Does anyone know how long my case will sit 'unassigned' before someone begins looking at it?

Hello, I received a phone call from my lawyer on Monday. He said he heard back from VSU about my case. My lawyer said that the SSA wants to approve my case with a full and favorable ruling. The catch is that the SSA wants my onset date to be January 2011. I first filed in April of 2010 and I was thinking the SSA might go back as far as 2009 as the onset date. My lawyer explained to me that my medical records show I did have multiple surgeries back then and through the years but, I showed improvement along the way too. So, I told my lawyer to accept the SSA offer. He also said he is still talking with the VSU about the onset date. I was also reminded that nothing is in stone yet but, the SSA would not make the offer if they did not intend to rule in my favor. I guess I should be happy but, I will not be until I see the paperwork and the cash in my bank account. I received the VSU letter on January 23rd, 2012. I think they worked very fast in reviewing my case.

Hmmm, I thought I remembered something about the VSU only being able to approve a case as it stands.  Pati...help?  Am I losing it?

If the claimant puts in a request to change the onset date, then the VSU can issue a Fully Favorable - they have not changed the onset date, the claimant has requested it. I believe that is the intention here, to have the attorney submit a change in onset.
