They said my case is at the 'determination' center?

I just sent in my Pain questionaire, Work History, Medical History forms.  (Man were those a lot of papers!)

So, does that mean that they are about to send me a 'determination' letter?

Hi,

Since this is your initial application, then I am sure they mean it is at medical determination.  If they feel there is enough evidence it will be decided and a letter is sent.  If they need more info it will be sent back to your case worker for further development.

Thanks Marci,

What does the disability worker do to develop the case?

They gather all needed paperwork such as medical records, third party reports and claimant forms.  On top of that they will schedule any further medical exams that the medical team feels is necessary.

Marci,
Do you happen to know what happens if I move before they make a determination?

I just spoke with the office & they said that it's at determination & to expect an answer by the end of june.

I will probably have moved to another state by then........

Since your case is already at determination and you are at the initial level moving should not have much of an effect on your case as SSDI is a national program.

Depending on how far along your case is in the determination process they will either make the decision or send it to your new office.

Moving becomes more of an issue when you are the hearing level.  Transferring a case could move you to the back of the line and your wait times are different.  This could be good or bad depending on how busy your new office is.

Just make sure you inform social security of your move.

Yogini,
You'll just have to make sure that the local SSA has your current address info...

I was just wondering if I my moving would delay their decision even more.  I've been out of work since July '11.  And they said I won't get a decision as it is until the end of June '12.  If it delays any longer I don't know what I'm gonna do.

It depends upon how far along things are.  If it is already with the medical team, it should not.  If they are still in development and have to transfer the file it may slightly but not much.
