I am currently in the reconsideration phase.  I originally applied in Aug. 2011 and was denied by Oct. 28, 2011.  They made that determination without the benefit of upcoming appointments, MRI, X-rays etc.  I have a disability attorney who assisted with the filing of the reconsideration application (filed Nov. 29, 2011)  I have been going to subsequent appointments and doctors and letting my attorney know the dates, places and Dr. names, etc. which she has passed on to DDS.
I was asked to go to a consultant examine on Jan. 10, 2012 - mental health type to discuss my Seasonal Affective Disorder, other depression from chronic pain, my ability to concentrate and focus and complete and follow instructions.  I went to that appointment and the Psychologist said that she would submit her report in the next 10 days.  I'm assuming she did.  In addition to those issues noted above, I have DDD, facet arthritis, osteoarthritis of left hip (severe) and spinal stenosis.  Last week I attended another appointment that then generated some additional appointments so I made contact with my attorney on Thurs. Feb. 2, 2012 to notify her of those appointments so that she could pass that onto DDS.   (sorry for the length of this, but I felt I needed to provide background info -- getting to the point now...!) On Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 my attorney called me to tell me that she made contact with DDS in order to provide them with those new appointments and was told that the case had a disposition.  My attorney then called the local field office and was told that I was approved but with a different disability date of onset.  You can imagine how elated I was for the rest of the day!... THEN, I called the national SS 800 number ( this was the first time I have ever called it) and was told that yes my case had a decision on Feb. 1, 2012 and that it was now in review.  DOES THIS MEAN THAT THE APPROVAL DECISION COULD BE CHANGED OR DOES IT MEAN THAT IT'S GONE BACK TO THE LOCAL OFFICE FOR NON-MEDICAL RELATED QUESTIONS ON MY APPLICATION/APPROVAL?   I AM SOOOO CONFUSED NOW.  I WROTE AN E-MAIL TO MY ATTORNEY FRIDAY NIGHT (AFTER CLOSING HOURS) FOR CLARIFICATION.  I'm so anxious I can't eat or sleep! Also, I checked online for my application status and it went from "No decision has been made as of today's date.  No decision has been made on your reconsideration as of today's date"  ...now it just says "no decision has been made as of today's date".  Is this just generic 'canned' replies.  I never recieved a reply that said a decision was made when they denied me the first time.   SO MAnY  QUESTIONS!   Thanks for any insight you might have!

I do know that the on-line status is pretty much useless.

I wish I could give you a definitive answer on your "review" confusion, but to tell the truth, I feel so helpless at times because I just plain 'ole don't know the answer.  I'd would love nothing more than to be able to relieve your stress.

Hang on just a lil longer, I have no doubt some brainiacs will be by soon.  group hug

Hi danjean1,
Welcome!
Take deeeeeeeeeeeep breaths and then repeat. Smiley

If you want to read more about what Quality Review is, and why it is used, you can peruse the forum you already posted in here:

http://ssdfacts.com/forum/index.php/board,12.0.html

But, try not to worry. A very small percentage of cases that are recommended for approval are overturned in Quality Review. They are basically taking a second look at your claim, making sure all the "i's" and "t's" are dotted and crossed, respectively.

The online status is no reliable. And claimants often find our their decision by mail or phone long before the status is actually updated.

Just know that the end is near...and try to have a good night's sleep. You can talk to your attorney tomorrow. In the meantime you have a whole army of us waiting with you.

Welcome to the site.  As Dragon Fly mentioned this is very common and while I know that doesn't alleviate all the stress it should not take very long.

Reviews are one of the reason that social security has a policy against telling a claimant what a decision is over the phone.  Unfortunately until it is received and the review period is up it is not "set in stone".

That said, your case was strong enough to get an approval and having an approval overturned in review is not common.  We will be here to help you all we can.

Thanks to everyone for helping to calm me down!  It's such a long process with the constant need to justify, reiterate, and emphasize, wearing your heart on your sleeve and leaving a lump in your throat.  Thanks for the link re. quality review.  I will try to take deep breaths. LOL -- Funny, my husband told me the same thing! The voice of reason.  I'll let you know how things go.  Good luck to everyone.

I got my letter in today's mail!!!  It states:  "We have found that you meet the medical requirements for disability benefits."

They need to make a decision on the non-medical requirements and then will send a second notice with payment and back pay amount.

After I was denied in October 2011, I almost gave up and had written my attorney and didn't want to pursue it any longer.  I was feeling beaten down.   Sad
Thankfully she convinced me that I had good reason to appeal that denial so that I could be approved in the reconsideration phase.   Smiley

After reading many of the posts on here, I am humbled by the long roads that many of you have traveled.  I sincerely hope that you will all receive good news regarding your claim soon!

How fantastic!   You may want to check out our back pay calculator from the menu above to see what you can expect.

I am really happy you won this battle and came to share the information on your journey with us all.  Would love to have you stick around and support others who may feel as you did in the beginning.

Jean, you might want to call your Local SSA to make sure they have all they need to release your BackPay from the Payment Center...

Marci, thanks so very much!  I cannot begin to express how useful this forum has been over the last 6 months!!  I read everything I could get my hands on and compared notes and claims that were similar just to get a feel for what I might expect.

I have checked out the back pay calculator -- needless to say I'm quite satisfied -- I could appeal the date of onset, but I tend to agree with the date they used as I didn't have much documented medical evidence prior to March 2011.  I wouldn't want to give any reason for my approval to be overturned in an appeal.

For me it wasn't ONLY about the money, but a matter of principal -- everyone should be able to get what they're entitled to !!  excited head-spin

Congratulations Jean:

It is a tough decision to accept a later onset date, but I think you made the right decision. And, you are right. The back pay can certainly help with the financial strain, but knowing you have benefits into the future is every bit as important.

Relax and enjoy your decision. I'm very happy for you.
