I was homeless when I met this friend I live with now. I am  currently applying for ssi due to mental disorders. Anyways I now stay with this friend. I baby sit and do dishes etc in order to stay because I have no income. Will my ssi be deducted because technically I don't pay in cash to stay there? At the same time it's really just a place to stay I would not consider it a home or apartment or anything. I don't want to be deducted because I hope to get my own studio apartment.

Yes, you will get the 1/3rd reduction for not paying your own living expenses because you are not paying rent for the place you are living.

However, once you report to SSA that you have moved out & started paying your own living expenses, SSA will adjust your SSI payment & start giving you the additional 1/3rd.  (It does take 2 months after your move for the change to take effect so your payment won't instantly go up.)

Age at Application: 26 age of onset (but I did not apply until 28)
Date Applied: August 2011
First Approval/Denial Date: November 2011
Additional Info: I was fortunate to be approved on my initial application due to extensive medical records (12+ doctors) & documentation of unsuccessful work attempts even with significant accommodations
