Whenever anyone gets the chance, could you please help me understand the Medicare start date and in which month the first Medicare Part B premium will be deducted from my brother's SSDI payment.

His entitlement month and year are July, 2016. Disability began on Jan 31, 2016 per SSA.

Thanks in advance. Smiley

Medicare will not start until he has received 24 months of payments (including months that were included in back pay).  Therefore, if his EOD is January 31, 2016 & his entitlement month is July 2016 then Medicare will start in July 2018.

Thanks, grove800 and Helper!

Am I correct in assuming the premium payment will be deducted from his August 2018 SSDI payment? (When anyone gets a chance Smiley

Yes, the payment he receives in August for the month of July.

Unless he is eligible for one of the Medicare Savings Programs:
https://www.medicare.gov/your-medicare-costs/help-paying-costs/medicare-savings-program/medicare-savings-programs.html

You should also look into signing him up for a Supplement or an Advantage plan and a prescription (Part D) a couple months before his Medicare starts.  https://www.shiptacenter.org/ can help you find the local SHIP office, which can advise you on the best supplement/advantage plan & Part D plan for your brother.
