Hey Y'all,
Just when I thought that I was stressed to the limit.... Yes, I got a summons police for juty duty in my mailbox yesterday!  I am 60 yrs. old and a physical and mental wreck! eek
I have been on 2 murder trial juries in the past.  Once was when I was in my 30's and once when I was in my 40's.  I was foreman (forelady) on the first one, and had to turn down nomination on the second one.  I told them, "I have served as forelady before, thanks, but no thanks."  It was a very violent murder case that I was forelady on.  I was sooo stressed for weeks and weeks!  The second trial was murder, also.  But at least I didn't have to bear the weight of standing up in court and handing down the verdict!
I think I've served my civic duty, but I am going to have to try to get excused from this one.  I only have 2 weeks to get a written excuse from my Dr. and turn it in to the Superior Court. doctor  Wish me luck on that?  I will call my Dr. today and try to work it out with him?  I just hope he's not on vacation to the Phillipines?
There is no way on God's green earth that I could sit for hours and hours on jury duty!  Not even to mention the stress and sleepless nights?  Oh yeah, have y'all been watching the Casey Anthony trial?  deliberate Yeah, like, who in their right mind would want jury duty right now?
Anyway, I just wanted to know if any of you had been called, lately?  Thanks for your input, in advance.

I have been watching the 'Anthony' case and it makes me sick! I absolutely would not want to be on that case! It makes me mad that they are putting her in protective custody when she gets out Sunday... Why didnt someone put Caylee in protective custody?Huh? Ugh argue bang head

I was called for Jury Duty about a month after all my problems started. I had an appointment with my Dr. about a week after I got the summons. I took it to him and he said no way could I do that because I was suppose to be laying down as much as possible to relieve the pressure from my spine. He wrote me an excuse and I sent it back with the summons. (I did make copies) Haven't heard from them since. This was back in April. I hope it works out for you.

Nope, Florida doesn't give up on much.  We are still voting too.  We don't let silly things like chads get in our way.

Hi Max,
I was able to get out of Jury Duty a few years ago without a problem. My Neuro wrote a letter explaining that I couldn't serve due to my illness and they informed me that I was excused. You shouldn't have any problem being excused as long as you get verification from your doctor.

I'm not even going to say how I feel about the Casey Anthony Verdict  Angry   confused2 dunno bang head

Good Luck Max

UPDATE ON MY JURY DUTY!  eek

Hey Y'all,

Just when I thought my life couldn't get more complicated.....It did yesterday!  Please bear with me while I vent?

If you have read my past posts, you know I don't have health insurance, and I haven't received very much medical treatment for my illnesses.  I see my mother's cancer surgeon once a year for my migraine prescriptions and he saw me for my ruptured discs on and off and sent me to physical therapy several times.  He is from the Phillipines and his wife sells "natural remedies".  I bought $100 worth of the "crap" for my rheumatoid arthritis, and stayed on the commode for three weeks.  I got dehydrated and had to stop taking it!  He doesn't give me pain medicine for my back or arthritis.  He has suggested acupuncture and spiritual snake oil?  He is so scared of losing his license, since they have cracked down on some of these unscrupulous doctors around here for prescribing too much pain medicine, that he just lets his patients suffer.  (He did a hernia operation on my son several years ago, and gave him enough pain medicine for about 3 days?)
The rest of the time, I've had to resort to going to the E.R. (either by ambulance or barely able to walk).

I called the surgeon's office on Friday.  His wife answered phone and said that I'd have to come in and talk to him about getting a written verification to excuse me from jury duty on August 8.  There is no way that I can sit for hours during the jury selection process, or if I get chosen, the actual trial.  My earlier post describes my previous jury duties, and that's how I know that I couldn't do it now at age 60, and because my health has deteriorated in the past 20 years.

That said...... I go into his office.....talk to the secretary/nurse..... She tells me, "I can probably type up something for you?"  She gets on the computer and says, "The only thing he has treated you for is migraines."  (This is the doctor who has seen me for ruptured discs, migraines, rheumatoid arthritis on and off for 10 years.)  She says, "You'll have to see him today(pay for $100 office visit)."

Well, I can't believe my ears?  Paying $100 to my doctor to get excused from jury duty?  Not wanting to rock the boat, I say okay.  I have no other doctor to go to?

To make a long story short......He came in the room and says, "What's wrong with you today?"  I told him that I needed written verification to excuse me from jury duty because of my back pain.  Before I could explain anything....he starts on a lecture about 'doing my civic duty', and belittling me for even trying to get out of it!
He was insulting me and hurting my feelings!  I started crying and trying to explain that I had already served on two murder trials and was forman of the jury on one of them.. He kept interrupting and saying how lucky I am to be an American and have the opportunity to serve on a jury.  The whole office could hear us yelling at one another! argue  I saw this was going nowhere!  I stood up and told him, "How dare you be judgemental toward me and question my patriotism?"  "Just forget it!"
I STOOD UP AND LEFT!!! beam up

I cried all day and night about this.  I am just sick this morning.  I'm sure it will trigger a migraine.  I will never set foot in his office again!  Even if it means losing my SSI case!

I live in a small rural town in Georgia with few doctors and a small hospital.  But, I am going to start trying to find me a general practitioner today.  SSA sent me to a new doctor here in town for my examination back last September.  He was very nice and is taking new patients.  I stopped by his office(right across the street from my present one) and his secretary said he's on vacation and will be back next week.  She gave me one of his business cards, and said to call her back to make an appointment for next week(he charges $95-$205)?  I can scrape up that or borrow, maybe?

My NEW DILEMMA??  Can I go to this doctor?  He did my exam for Social Security regarding my SSI claim.  Would this be a conflict of interest?  If I can't see him, I guess I will keep calling and try to find another one?

I have made up my mind, if I can't get excused??  I will show up for jury duty with my walker.....and stand up when I have to, and walk around if I have to, or lay down on the floor, if I have to!!  They can pick me up and lock me up!!  I can rest in JAIL!

I am soo stressed out about this!  I just hope I don't have a nervous breakdown!  I honestly don't know how much more bullsh** I can take!!  Thanks so much for letting me get this off my chest!  Pray for me to have patience?  I am in physical and mental pain today!!
Having a bad day,  bawling
Max

p.s. When y'all are complaining about your doctors, or medicine, or this test, or that procedure?  Think about old Max?  Gives you something to compare to?

Hi Max,
So sorry to hear all that you have been through  Sad    I really don't know what else to tell you because I see my Neuro on a regular basis and he wrote my excuse with no problems.

If you can't get a written doctor's excuse, maybe you can explain your health condition when you show up for the jury duty process and hopefully the judge will excuse you. Do what you need to do so he/she can see just how much pain you are in. You can even tell them that you have served on previous juries so you know what to expect and know for a fact that it will be too difficult for you to sit on this jury due to your current health conditions.

I understand your frustration but try to calm down and not get yourself too worked up. That will do nothing but make you feel worse. Hopefully someone else will come along that has had the same problem you are experiencing and they can give you better advice.

I'm so sorry that this is happening and I'll keep you in my prayers  angel

Sounds like a quack to me!  I'd call the local United Way or other agency to see if they can give you the name of another doctor or clinic which is free or sliding scale. They often have excellent doctors who are dedicated and want to help the less fortunate.  You shouldn't have to put up with his abuse.  And jury duty is based on voter registration. If you register to vote, they can call you.  Tell the judge you are disabled and in pain and this is a hardship for you, bring your walker so he can see, and most likely he will excuse you.
