Son in QR as of March 24, 2107.

Hello, my son's case was "approved" by DDS on March 24, 2017, and has now gone to Quality Review in Oakland, California (we're in Nevada). I have a question about the Reconsideration level, which he is on now. When his case was at DDS for the reconsideration, does another doctor look at his case again, or is it only the examiner? Also, any luck with the Oakland office? This sure has been one long week.

Is your son applying for physical or mental health issues (or a combination)?  Particularly if physical only, he could have potentially had a single decision maker case at the initial level, he could have had a single decision maker case & not had a doctor look at the records.

From what I have read, the single decision maker process is used on initial decisions.  I have not seen mention of it for reconsideration.

It can taken 60 days to get out of Quality Review, but it can be much faster.

Hi, thanks so much for the reply. It's all mental, nothing physical. I'm hoping a doctor looked at his records on the Reconsideration. It would be nice if it doesn't go back to DDS. Thanks for the link, I'll have a read.

Really dumb question, but do you know if the Oakland office is known to overturn the DDS' decisions? Also, is my son's case in ODAR? Not exactly sure what that is.

Thanks again.

ODAR is when you get to the ALJ hearing level.

If your son's claim is mental, then the medical  records should be reviewed by a doctor at initial & reconsideration.

Great! Thank you for answering me. I'm glad to hear a doctor was able to look at it again.

Hi, just an update if anyone reads this. My son's case went to QR on March 24, 2017. His case then went back to our local office on April 4, 2017, approved! Today, April 19, 2017, we had our non-medical interview. SSA website is now updated with his pay information.
