Is your wife working ? Does your wife make much ? Do you receive food stamps or other government  assistance ? If your wife is working it's possible she may make too much for you to qualify for SSI. If she is not working AND you nor she have any income AND your total resources equal no more than $3,000 AND if you pay your living expenses you would receive $735 a month in SSI. You would also receive Medicaid.

SSI back pay is paid in three installments, six months apart. The soonest anyone is eligible for SSI is the month after they file their SSI application.

SSI is also a form of disability.  Did your attorney say you were denied SSDI, but approved SSI?

For SSI...what does it mean when your resources can't be more than $3K.  Does that mean the things you own like TVs, tools, furniture, clothes, collectibles etc...?  If not, you would have to live under a bridge in a cardboard box with your unopened Beatles White Album...that's it.  Just curious?

There is no SSD.  It's SSI and SSDI.

No.  They have the same medical requirements but SSDI is based on work credits and SSI is not.  SSI is essentially welfare for the disabled, and it has income and asset tests.
